  • CBS lights torch early with ``Survivor'' special

    CBS has found a way to squeeze more mileage from its hit reality franchise ``Survivor.''

    The network has greenlit an hourlong ``Survivor'' special that will air Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. -- a week before ``Survivor 3: Africa'' bows in the same slot.

    Details of the special are still being worked out, but one insider said the hour will provide a look at ``how to play the game of 'Survivor.''' It will also offer an extensive preview of ``Survivor 3,'' with a peek at the show's new cast and location.

    'Survivor' Meets 'Big Brother' on a Special Edition of 'Big Brother 2,' Wednesday, Sept. 5 on the CBS Television Network 'Survivor's' Gervase and Sue and 'Survivor: The Australian Outback's' Alicia and Jeff to Pay a Visit to the Houseguests

    The BIG BROTHER 2 Houseguests will receive unexpected company when SURVIVOR's Gervase and Sue and SURVIVOR: THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK's Alicia and Jeff pay a visit to their house on a special edition of BIG BROTHER 2, Wednesday, Sept. 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

    During the Survivors' stay, the reality teams will square off against each other in a surprise competition that will decide which reality team rules. The Survivors will also make regular Diary Room entries, just as the Houseguests do.

    NBC is looking to strike a little 'Fear' into the premiere of CBS' highly-touted action reality series 'The Amazing Race.' The network will use an original episode of hot shock reality series 'Fear Factor' to combat 'Race's' Sept. 5 debut.

    CBS has announced that two shows will jumpstart the fall season for CBS -- starting with the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced reality show 'The Amazing Race,' which will debut on Wednesday Sept. 5 at 9 p.m., followed a week later by the supernatural thriller 'Wolf Lake' at 10 p.m. 'Race' will debut the same night as NBC's 'Lost,' which CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves calls a coincidence.

    A couple of days ago, a new contestant list began circulating among various Survivor webmasters and message boards. After a couple of days of research, it's looking like it's legit, so here it is:

  • Survivor 4 Locale Found?

    SURVIVOR 4 FINDS A HOME: With Survivor 3 in the can, producer Mark Burnett has apparently found a location for Survivor 4. USA Today reports that the next installment of CBS's hit reality franchise will be set somewhere in the arid desert boondocks of Jordan. A CBS rep wouldn't confirm or deny that Survivor 4 — which will debut in March 2002 — is Middle East-bound. In the meantime, Survivor 3 premieres Oct. 11.

  • 'Survivor' Chef to Air Cooking Show

    PHOENIX Keith Famie, a chef who earned a reputation on CBS's "Survivor: The Australian Outback" as the guy who couldn't cook rice, wrapped up filming this month in Sedona, Ariz., for his new cooking show to air on Food TV.

    Keith Famie's Adventures is scheduled to begin airing in November.

    The first 11 shows, excluding the premiere which is being taped in Kenya, are remakes of Famie's local cooking show in Detroit.

    The former Survivor champ spilled his side of the story Wednesday about his arrest on a domestic-assault charge, telling Boston radio listeners that he was merely defending himself against a jealous ex-boyfriend.

    "All I did was push him away to keep him out of my home--and I was arrested," Hatch said, during his morning radio show for Boston's Star 93.7 FM. "I actually feel sorry for the guy. He is truly, truly, truly psychologically damaged."

    Where's that pesky immunity idol when you need it? Richard Hatch, the flamboyant $1 million winner of CBS's first Survivor series, was arrested Tuesday for a domestic dispute allegedly involving an ex-boyfriend. Middletown, R.I., police spokesman Lt. Barry Smith says a warrant was issued for Hatch's arrest after the victim filed a complaint Monday.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that hometown boy 'Matt' (one of the Temptation Island single guys) and Elizabeth of the Temptation Island single girls are dating. But let's be clear here -- says Matt: "Elizabeth is not my girlfriend. That's a quote." Um, OK... whatever.

  • Judge Dismisses Part of Hatch Suit

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. Richard Hatch was arrested properly on a child abuse charge that later was dropped, but the "Survivor" winner may pursue a privacy complaint, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

    U.S. District Court Judge Ernest Torres said there was no evidence Hatch, who gained national celebrity last year after winning $1 million on the CBS reality show's first season, was falsely arrested.

    Torres said a civil claim by Hatch that his privacy was violated when Middletown police released to the media a statement by his son and a mug shot "was much more difficult to analyze." He set the matter for trial, which he said would take place soon.

  • 'Survivor' Sued Over Theme Song

    NEW YORK Musician Paul Winter has sued the makers of "Survivor," alleging they improperly used a song he recorded in 1987 for the haunting theme of television's most popular series.

    Winter wants to rescind the permission he granted to use his music and get a taste of profits stemming from "Survivor."

    He sued CBS, "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett and a former member of the Paul Winter Consort, Russell Landau, this week in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
